Description: Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), is a member of the TNF superfamily. It is a pleiotropic molecule that plays a central role in inflammation and immune system development. TNF-α is produced by a wide variety of cell types including lymphoid cells. TNF matures through separation of the extracellular domain from rest of the molecule. It forms a soluble trimer which binds the trimeric TNF receptor (TNFR). TNF-α is a key cytokine in the development of several inflammatory disorders.
